Homemade egg tempera paints

We are using Discovering Great Artists as a Friday elective type subject, and today we learned about the artist, Giotto di Bondone. Technically this was the first lesson in the book, but we had to shift it to later, because of a lack of good colored chalk :P

While DD worked on other subjects, I calmly sat across from her and grated chalk.

All the grated chalk ready to be made into beautiful paint.

After mixing in egg yolk, and a bit of water. DD said the paint was think and a bit chunky.

But she was still able to create something with it :)

That is an excellent book, and one we really enjoyed using over a few years for art class! Yes, we found the paint thick and chunky, but had fun experimenting with it too. :)
