Well first things first, Danielle's 8th birthday is this month. I have NO idea what I am going to do for her birthday. I hate to think I am going to end up falling back on the old Chuck E Cheese party, but if things keep going the way they are, we may just be doing that.. She has a list a mile long of what she wants for her birthday, but I am thinking she's going to get one or two things, and that's it. She always gets a ton of gifts, so she won't go without if I cut back a bit.
Also, school starts up for us again this month. We were working through a summer learning book, but Danielle has gotten very obstinate and difficult, so I set it aside to let her have more time off. Sadly, I think that was not the best idea, because she doesn't seem any less obstinate or difficult, just the battleground has changed :( I don't know when we are meeting with her new supervising teacher yet. We are so going to miss Mrs. Skaret, she was the bestest. She said she prepared our new teacher for how I like to do things, let's hope that's true and we don't have any headbutting.. We are starting a whole new curriculum this year, Moving Beyond The Page and that will serve for reading and social studies. I am supplementing with straight forward 3rd grade California standard math books, and R.E.A.L. Science Life (which we are about half way through) and then R.E.A.L Science Earth and Space because I honestly feel that the math in the MBtP is not going to be at her level, and she needs MUCH more science then it offers as well.
We are so blessed that we were able to get a new dining room table from a local family who are moving out of the country. FINALLY, we have a table that more then two people can comfortably sit at (4 people!) and there is enough room for text books, and teachers editions at the same time! Plus we can have craft or art projects out for all three of us at the same time :) Can you tell I am very excited about the new table??
So, what is August bringing for your family?

August always seems to sneak up on me - especially with the August Birthday kid! Once we celebrate with him, the following week we're heading down to Georgia. I'm going to try and find time to go see Margaret Mitchell's house in Atlanta while I'm there. Wish me luck!
So happy for you and the table AND the cool curriculum. That's great!
August always seems bitter sweet - the end of summer but the beginning of new things!
