R.E.A.L Science Odyssey Review

Read, Explore, Absorb, and Learn Science. Isn't that a great tag line? I LOVE it. As a parent of a science and math minded girl, I hunt high and low for resources that will keep and hold her attention, while feeding her passions. I was so excited to stumble on Pandia Press's R.E.A.L Science Odyssey books.

We are currently working through the Life Science book and are very much enjoying it. There is a short bit of reading at the beginning of each section, but not so much that Danielle, who doesn't enjoy reading as much, gets frustrated nor does she expect me to read it to her, as she did in her previous science book. Then there is the hands on lab pages, her favorite part! She enjoys working through the labs, and building her science notebook.

I can see us using these books along side our chosen curriculum, as they are not super time consuming, they don't require elaborate preparation, and she loves doing them! I am going to try to complete the Life book over the summer so we can start on Earth & Space next school year.

Now the very best part of Pandia Press, they offer a Try Before You Buy option, with PDF files of portions of all their books, so you can see for yourself how it works, and if it is a good for for your family! In addition to the R.E.A.L Science Odyssey, they offer History Odyssey Study Guides :)

Full Disclosure ~ Pandia Press provided me with the E-Book of the students pages for R.E.A.L Science Odyssey - Life, for the purposes of review. I had already purchased the printed and bound book.

Thank you for the great review! I'd be interested in know what ages you think would be best using the level one products? Also, about how much time per day do you spend with it? When considering curriculum I'm trying to keep in mind the big picture of what our day will look like. Thanks again!

Those are great questions Kim!

I am using Level One with my 7 year old daughter, 2nd grade. A LOT of it is review for her, but because she is having fun, she doesn't seem to mind the review. I don't use it daily, more like twice a week. First day, we read over the section, and complete the first lab, then we pick another day of the week to do the second lab :) It's hard to pin down how much time it takes, because the labs vary a great deal. And for some, if DD is really enjoying it, she might stay with it for a long time! But the set up time is short, and the reading time is short ;)
