Introducing our new neighbors...

Yep, meet Mr and Mrs Dopey Dove. A mating pair of Mourning Doves who have decided the very sloped top of our kitchen sun window was the perfect place to build a nest to raise their youngin's. Sadly, this will not do, as it is evident from their several days of work, anything placed on that ledge will just fall off, sticks, grasses and sadly, eggs.

So we decided to do something about it. We decided to help Mr.and Mrs. Dove have a safe place to lay their eggs.

Dean went out to survey the area. He tried to sneak up unobserved ;0)

What you see in this box is all of the nest making materials that Mr. Dove had already brought to Mrs. Dove and had fallen off the window.

Dean installed a hook into the wall above the window, to attach the box by string. So that it can easily be removed when the doves are finished with it.

Here is the final product. So far, Mr. and Mrs. Dove have come back several times to inspect the box. They walk around it, and have even pecked at items in it. I was hoping they would recognize the makings of their last nest. So far, they aren't ready to sign a lease, but I am hoping they will come around ;0)

I love that you and Dean made the Doves a new sturdier home! We have doves that come back each spring. The boys now look and listen for them in the morning. Did you know that they mate for life? If one loses its mate, it will then tag along with another couple until the end of its life. Isn't that sweet and sad?
